Are You Up for a Summer Scripture Challenge?
The past few months we have been discussing the importance of reading scripture daily. This habit has proven to have a lasting impact on our spiritual health. So, have you started (or continued) reading scripture? The more we read it, the more we commit it to memory. The more we commit it to memory, the more prepared we will be when faced with temptation. Memorizing scripture will make us more likely to turn away from sin and toward God. Need help getting started? Here are 10 verses to commit to memory this summer. These are from the website, The Better Mom—a great resource for parents (anyone really)!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
*And one bonus verse: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3)—this is our VBS verse!
Let’s get started memorizing scripture this summer! Who can memorize the most? Can you memorize more beyond this list? Will the kids out-memorize the adults? Stay tuned this summer to find out!
