Christ-Centered Activities That Are Social-Distancing Approved

As I sit here and type, the world is in the midst of a pandemic. We have all been affected in some way—schools have been shut down, work has been disrupted, mundane errands have to be considered carefully, and Sunday worship is now virtual. If you are looking for new ideas to keep your kids (or yourselves) busy during this time, I’m here to help. The following is a list of activities are all “social-distancing” approved! And even though Easter is past, the season lives in our hearts.*Praise Poster decorate a poster with the phrase “He is Risen!” and hang it in your front window for people to see as they go by*Chocolate Bunny buy a large chocolate bunny (be careful going out to the store!) and deliver it to someone special with a note that says “noBUNNY loves you like Jesus!”*Chalk Messages write encouraging phrases on neighbors’ driveways with colorful chalk*Science Experiment place a white carnation in a vase with water. Add red food coloring to the water. The carnation will gradually (be patient!) soak up the color of the water. Read 1 Peter 1:18-19 and discuss how Jesus took our sins upon himself when he died on the cross.*Easter Eggs before you dye your eggs, write the letters JESUS on the eggs with white crayon. Dye your eggs, and the letters will magically appear.*Palm Sunday Leaves trace your child’s handprints on green paper. Cut out 3-4 handprints and attach them to a long stick. Read John 12:12-13*Light of the World (Good Friday) have cupcakes for dessert! Put a trick candle in each cupcake (don’t tell!). Light the candles and then try to blow them out. When the candles relight, talk about how everyone thought Jesus’ light had disappeared on Good Friday, but it didn’t! He is alive!*Easter Lily drop off an Easter lily at someone’s door the day before Easter with a note, “Joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)Although we may be restricted in our daily activities during this unusual time, sharing God’s message and loving one another are never restricted. Find an opportunity each day to love your neighbor and be thankful for all that God has done. Hang in there, friends, and be well!
