He Is High

Not to long ago I was praising the Lord in song, singing the song Came To My Rescue (Be Lifted High) by Hillsong United. I was continuously singing the lines, “In my life be lifted high, in our world be lifted high, in our love be lifted high.” As I sang I felt in my heart that I was making a declaration that the Lord be lifted higher and that as I did so He was actually being lifted higher. It was as if, in my mind, I saw God lifted high in the sky and as I was singing and praising Him I was picturing Him going higher and higher.As I was praising God I felt the Holy Spirit humble me by saying, “Jacob, I am high.” The moment I heard it I paused and just sat thinking about that. He is high. God is high. Jesus is high. I continued to pray into this revelation. I realized that Jesus is high and that He is the very point of reference in regards to being high. There is nothing higher, nothing will ever be higher and He is as high now as He will ever be. I concluded then that if Jesus is the very point of reference in relation to height—and we want to lift Him higher—there is only one thing for us to do. We must get lower.Here is how I picture it: if Jesus was the ceiling and I was standing in a room the way for me to make Him higher would be to lay down on the floor because I can not make the ceiling any higher. When I am standing I am closer to the ceiling but if I lay down I am now lower and He becomes higher. In the same way, when we lower ourselves before Christ we make Him higher and it is exactly what He desires from us.He says in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God.” Being poor in spirit means to be humble, not thinking of ones own self highly, but considering the thoughts and desires of God as higher. When we humble ourselves before God it gives Him permission to mold us and use us in the way He desires. When He can use us He is able to build His kingdom through us and when we are used by Him we experience the Kingdom of God.We should lift Him high often by lowering ourselves before Him. Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship.” The greatest way to worship God is by giving Him our lives to do what He longs for us to do over what we want to do.
