Look Up Means Looking to God

In the popular series “The Chosen”, a common phrase (or variation of the phrase) has come about. The phrase is “Look Up.”  For all who have accepted the forgiveness and grace that Jesus offers, and have made Him their Lord and Savior, there will come a day when we will have the privilege of ‘looking up’ into His face of love. But until that time, when we will see Him face to face, we still have the privilege of “looking up.”Looking up isn’t just a matter of a head tilt. It’s an attitude of the heart, the thoughts of the mind and the will of our spirits. Looking up deals with where we look to for help, who we turn to when life is uncertain or difficult. Looking up is a matter of knowing in whom we can place our trust. Looking up is aligning ourselves with Psalm 121.

I look up to the mountains and hills, longing for God’s help.

But then I realize that our true help and protection is only from the Lord,

our Creator who made the heavens and the earth.

He will guard and guide me, never letting me stumble or fall.

God is my keeper; he will never forget nor ignore me.

He will never slumber nor sleep;

he is the Guardian-God for his people, Israel.

Yahweh himself will watch over you;

he’s always at your side to shelter you safely in his presence.

He’s protecting you from all danger both day and night.

He will keep you from every form of evil or calamity

as he continuously watches over you.

You will be guarded by God himself.

You will be safe when you leave your home,

and safely you will return.

He will protect you now,

and he’ll protect you forevermore!

All of us are watching a suspense drama, if not a horror show, in the news these days. Some of us are dealing with personal struggles, uncertainty with health issues or financial futures or career choices. Some of us are dealing with sick children or parents who are aging. Some of us are filled with stress and anxiety living in a world that is bound and determined to live outside of the blessing of God’s will and favor. No matter what you are dealing with, Look Up, for our help doesn’t lie in our strength or our neighbor’s wisdom. Our help comes only from our Lord Jesus Christ.When we look to Him, we find a peace that is not of this world. It’s a peace that is directed by God to be poured out into our lives when we place our trust in Him. It’s a peace we need when what we hear from the world is Christians are being persecuted, banks are being closed, food shortages are at hand. Our God holds the answer and has promised over and over that He will not abandoned us to this world.  Deuteronomy 31:6 states: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”Look Up and find your peace in the one who is always beside you!
