Sharing the Gospel With Candy Corn

There are people who love candy corn, and there are people who can’t stand it.  Personally, I am team candy corn, but I’ve heard that year after year this underappreciated confection finds itself on the “worst candy of all time” list.  What a bummer of a list!  However, whether you like the candy or not, did you know it could be used to share the gospel? Candy corn is usually made up of three colors: yellow, orange, and white.  God is three people in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  The orange reminds us of pumpkins, and pumpkins are a bit like people.  Pumpkins have gunk—seeds and pulp—that needs to be cleared out before it can be carved into something special.  People have gunk too, but our gunk is sin: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  We need God to clear out our sin in order to become a new creation: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).The white is usually the tip of the candy.  It is a reminder that Jesus makes our hearts clean and points us to God.  No matter how many mistakes we make, if we ask Jesus to be our Savior, he will wash away our sins and we can share in eternal life with him: “And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).The yellow reminds us of the streets of gold in Heaven and the eternal life that God has promised to those who put their faith in him: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16-17).So, whether you enjoy the candy or not, if you see some in the next few weeks let it be a reminder to share the gospel with someone.
