Shhhhhh…… Be quiet, Be still
I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time being still or being quiet. Every moment is seemingly filled with dozens of distractions. Just when I think I have a quiet moment, Noah, the puppy, grabs something he shouldn’t and tempts me to chase and play with him! And, if I don’t get to him before he shreds it, I will be faced with the game of cleaning the mess.I remember a time when it was possible to find an orderly space in any room of my home just to be quiet. I needed only to turn off the TV and I was in a distraction free zone. Now the TV is mostly turned off, yet the noise level is louder than ever. The “noise”’is not always external. Internally there seems to be a constant stream of conversations. “Who has a doctor’s appointment?” “What medicines need to be picked up?” Or “What is needed from the store?” Because of the constant and distracting conversations going on in my head, I’ve actually made two trips to the store to get butter. I’m hoping today will be the day I actually remember to buy some and bring it home. And if everyone has what they need and the pup is resting from shredding yet another roll of toilet paper, there is always social media that needs attention. I know I am not alone. I know you understand and empathize. We live in a busy and over stimulating world. The constant demands for our time and attention leave us exhausted! Yet here is this scripture that hangs out there like a giant neon blinking billboard:“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10Shhhhh…..be quiet and be still. And in the stillness, know that He is God. Watch for Him, wait for Him. Be still. In a world filled with distractions, that’s hard to accomplish. In a world filled with smart phones that call out our name with sounds and alarms, it’s almost impossible to find and make a sacred space where we can discover our God and hear him speaking. Technology is good and mostly necessary. Family, friends, and even acquaintances are critical to our well being. But all of that must take a back seat to that call from our God! That call to be still and know that He is God. He will be exalted among the nations and He will be exalted in the earth. He is Lord of all and deserves our full allegiance and our full attention. He alone deserves a time and a space where we quiet the demands of this world and look intently to Him.
In this very moment, you have quiet time available to you. Listen to this link [https://youtu.be/wYRXoVmUFmA] as Kari Jobe leads you in a moment of worship and then be still and wait for the Lord.
