Spreading Love: A Valentine Challenge

February is a month dedicated to heart health and Valentine’s Day.  We all want a healthy heart, both physically and emotionally.  My better half could talk to you about getting your heart physically healthy…so I’ll leave that part to an expert.  In this month’s blog I’m going to talk about getting our hearts emotionally healthy.  Doing something nice for someone else is a great way to make our hearts happy.  This is an activity I came across months ago but tucked it away to share for Valentine’s Day.  It can be easily adapted so anyone can participate.  It is a great way to spread love this month—an opportunity to warm someone’s heart despite freezing cold temperatures.

  • Here is the challenge: select a person or people you want to send “love notes” to.  It can be family members, neighbors, coworkers, or friends.  You could even select a different person each day of the challenge to spread the love even more.
  • Next decide how many notes you’d like to send—you could do this for a few days, a week, 14 days (in honor of Valentine’s Day), or even a whole month!
  • Then make your notes.  List the things you like or admire about the person.  A simple note can have a big impact.  Notes can be on plain paper or make them heart-shaped for bonus points!
  • Now you need to deliver your notes.  This is where you can be creative!  If you live with the person, you could post a note each day on their bedroom door or a place where they will find it.  If it’s a neighbor, you could put it on their front door.  Maybe decorate your coworker’s desk with notes.  You can even text a family member or friend each day with a note.  See, I told you anyone can find a way to do this!

That’s all there is to it!  I encourage all of us to spread the love this month.  “Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
