The Truth About God’s Love

Every second of every day we are given an extraordinary gift.  A true gift, with no strings attached. It is not a gift we can see or touch, but something we simply feel.  Something we can be assured will always remain. It is God’s illogical, infinite, and, at times, indescribable love.  February is the month we designate as heart-health month. We educate ourselves on keeping our hearts in top physical condition.  We also celebrate Valentine’s Day. We take time to profess our love to those around us here on Earth. But let’s remember to profess our love to the one who loved us first.  The one who loves us no matter what. The one who truly makes our hearts healthy. Let’s remind ourselves about the love of God. Let’s teach our children the truth about God’s love.God’s love is a gift.  “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)God’s love is for everyone.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)God’s love is patient.  “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)God’s love is merciful.  “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2: 4-5)God’s love is perfect.  “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.  For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.  We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:18-19)God’s love is faithful.  “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)God’s love is good.  “For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)God’s love rejoices.  “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)God’s love is inseparable.  “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)God’s love is forgiving.  “For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.” (Psalm 86:5)God’s love is everlasting.  “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” (Jeremiah 31:3)Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”  All too often we believe our faith is all about what we do.  We give our time, our money, and our service, but we neglect to give God the one thing He wants most: our hearts.  When we give our hearts to God, we are made righteous, forgiven of all sin, and guaranteed eternity in heaven. Lean into Him.  Love Him. And find rest and confidence in these truths about His love.
